The South East Queensland Brumby Association Inc (SEQBA) was established in August 2009 to advocate for the promotion, protection and humane management of brumbies including the establishment of a re-homing program in South East Queensland.

SEQBA focuses on horses from the Tuan and Toolara State Forests, located just 2.5 hours drive north of Brisbane near Tin Can Bay. Here brumbies are being hit and killed by cars and trucks and, in a seven day period in early 2009, four separate incidents occurred resulting in extensive vehicle damage and death of the brumbies. Clearly this is an unacceptable situation for both horses and humans. A conservative estimate is that there are as many as 800 brumbies in the forest.

In response to the situation, Anne Warmbrunn and Terry Wilson, having already adopted two brumbies from Save the Brumbies, decided to take action and set up SEQBA. Based near Noosa, Qld, SEQBA is a young but growing organisation that provides a much needed advocacy for humane management of wild horses in southern Queensland.

Forestry Plantation Queensland have engaged a well known horseman Dr David Berman to passively trap the brumbies in the Tuan and Toolara State Forests. After capture the brumbies are trucked to an SEQBA member property in Cootharaba, Qld for settling and handling. The horses are trained to lead and adopted out to the public.

To support the costs of caring for the horses up until the time of their re-homing SEQBA relies entirely on funds obtained from membership fees, sponsorships and donations. You might even see their info stall at the Eumundi Markets !
