Join the Biggest Trail Ride in June to help Wild Horses

ABA is excited to announce it has joined forces with the Australian Trail Horse Riders Association, Cavallo Australia and American counterparts to hold the Biggest Trail Ride in June this year.   The ride is aimed at highlighting the plight of wild horses and moneys raised will benefit ABA Member Groups and equivalent Mustang organisations in the United States.

The ride will take place on Saturday 4 June and you do not have to be an ATHRA Member to participate.  Just bring your brumbies or domestic horses to help the Biggest Trail Ride help Brumby Horses.

ABA member groups are making arrangments in their areas:

Hunter Valley Brumby Association Inc (NSW)

The Hunter Valley Brumby Association will be teaming up with ATHRA club Central Coast Horse Trail Riders group for a great ride at Catherine Hill Bay. Riders are to be assembled at the end of Monterfoire St by 9:30am to head out along the beach! This will be followed by a fundraising bbq, Brumby talks and information from 11am for all non riders and riders alike. For more information please email and RSVP by 31st May at info@hvba.com.au - all non ATHRA riders are most welcome.

OHHAWA Inc (WA)

Would love to see as many brumbies as possible and we will definitely be expecting to hear their stories!

Time: Be ready to ride out at 10.00am.

We will be having lunch at the Kirup Tavern so nominations must be in by the 29 May 2011. Late nominations will not be catered for. Don’t forget to bring your money. There are plenty of places to tie up horses at the tavern, bring along halters and leads and string (to save the trees). There will be a roadie meeting us at the tavern, for those who wish to pack a snack for their steed. There will be water available.

Ride details: Depending on the number of nomination;

  • If there is a large number of riders the trail will be marked.
  • If there is a small group we will just follow our noses and go exploring until we find the tavern.

Either way you can expect to be riding for at least 2-3 hours. The terrain is still quite hard under foot so I recommend shoes or boots for your horses.

The fees are as follows;

  • Members of either Donnybrook Horseman’s Club or ATHRA $10.00

All of this fee will go the ABA.

  • Non-members of these clubs will ride under the day membership and rules of Donnybrook Horseman’s Club $20.00

$10.00 of this fee will cover your insurance and the rest will go to ABA

All of the money raised will be distributed among the Australian brumby and other wild horse association to aid in their protection and in some cases rescue.
