The Australian Brumby Horse Register was established in 2005 to promote the Australian Brumby as a valued all round horse. ABHR welcomes all authentic Brumbies to the Register and anyone interested in preserving our Brumby heritage to become a member.
Horses that can be verified as coming from a herd that has run wild and unsupervised for at least 5 generations (20 years) can be admitted to the register. Progeny from authenticated brumbies can also join and there is an Appendix Register for part bred brumbies.

Members can enter ABHR Brumby Classes at local shows, and foals born from registered Brumbies will carry on authentic Brumby bloodlines. In 2009 ABHR held its first Online Australian Brumby Horse Show so that members from all areas can compete and have fun. The first show featured three halter classes and one ridden class which were judged by qualified Australian hacking judges. Four novelty classes were decided by public vote. |

Standards for judging are based on the horse being a good riding type with balance and good conformation. Riders and horses must be presented in a neat and tidy manner. Supporting the Register helps promote our Australian Brumby horse to the wider public and showcases brumbies from around Australia. While still a small register, as of early 2010, the ABHR has over 150 registered brumbies and appendix brumbies from NSW, Victoria and Queensland on record. |
